I was giving the way I personally pronounce the words.

If you google Cambridge vocal dictionaries on line, the recorded pronounciation is given as enn-velope. Oxford advanced dictionary gives both enn-velope and onvelope as correct.

Scone also seems to be a personal choice with the majority going for sconn in the UK. Apparantly both pronunciations are correct.

It's enn-velope and scone for me .... I have tried asking for Scons while on holiday in Devon but it always sounds awkward to me!

I've always said on-velope (I don't think I've ever heard anyone say en-velope) and I agree with your last comment too.

It's a bit like "scone" and "sconn" - In my neck of the woods, everyone says "scone" apart from the posh folk who say "sconn" but I've heard people in other areas say the opposite.
I also say 'sconn' but a lot of individual word pronunciation comes from the way my parents spoke. Anyone who said 'scone' would have gotten a lip curl from my mother.
