This was taken on my SLR.
I set camera up on my tripod, ISO 100 F11 and fired 10 10sec shots twice. I only caught the lightning once.
Next time I will set the time to bulb and keep lens open until I see the flash then take photo. Then repeat.

and you always will be, unless you can predict when the flash will be.
