Notice the girl's costume in the Wollfy cartoon above.

This cartoon did not make it past the Hays Code censors. Max was always pushing the line. He was the most current and relevant of the cartoonists. Disney, as great as he was, was going for the broadest audience he could. not a bad thing, but Max liked the edgy and funny stuff that would give some adult entertainment.
Max had great music. He used jazz musicians of his time in some or most of his cartoons.

Did anyone watch the cartoon Bob and Margaret? I know he was a dentist...and they had a couple of dogs.
