Churchill's attitude and outright lies can be attributed to leading directly to the ANZUS Treaty almost immediately after WWII.

He was also the architect of the Gallipolli debacle during WWI
Sorry to hear that Bruce - I'm well aware he had his faults - but I just cant help meself -

No particular memories apart from watching on TV with my grandma.
I thought he was a marvellous man.

Re: Churchill

I canīt say that I remember him at all other than hearing adults talk about him. However I have read his book, "The River War" and found it quite gripping.

Or even the bloke that wrote it:

To be fair Australia lost far more men later on the western front but the terrible landing at Gallipolli is what we remember on ANZAC Day on 25th April.

Re: Churchill

If it was 50 years ago then I would have been 12. I remember seeing the funeral over at my friend's house and 2 years later she went out to Australia with her family when we were in our third year of senior school. I went through the 4th without her (but only from Sep to Easter).

I always wondered when that funeral took place, as I knew I was old enough to remember it, but my friend was soon on her way to another life.

Re: Churchill

Watched a program on Churchill's funeral on BBC last night.
There was an interview in which there was a claim that the crane drivers were paid to dip their cranes as the barge carrying his body passed them on the Thames,it was not spontaneous as was reported.
