I had a similar 'garden experience'. My little brother tried to split my head with a small spade. My grandmother managed to stop him just in time. I wasn't even aware of it as my back was turned to both of them.

They're all soft nowaday's wrapping themselves up in cotton wool again!
You use your own commonsense when using tools, whether your kneeling down, or standing up to dig out the earth. Same when planting out you either kneel down or bend down to use your tools. It's your capabilities, you know what your body can take.
It never did anyone any harm, all these years of gardening and they come up with this? I think they're lost for what to think up next...
