Re: Your very first car

I passed my test on my 50th birthday, first time, and got a Ford escort. I must have had 12 or more cars since then as I change them every 2 or 3 years.

Passed first time in 1957.
First car was a two tone Hillman Minx series 3A.

Re: Your very first car

Passed test at 19, 2nd attempt. First car, green mini clubman bought from my BiL.

The 2nd mini I had was a reddun, bought from an uncle. I remember I had brake failure at one time and it was stolen from the garage where I'd taken it for repairs. My boss greeted me with the news one day...'garage has rung. Good news and bad news. Good news is, it's been found. Bad news is...it's wrapped round a lamp post!'

Eh, you gotta larf.

Re: Your very first car

I keep my cars till they either die from metal fatigue or collisions, or part ex for a different motor when it has been absolutely necessary. Oh, and theft. Mustn't forget that! Grrrrrrr.

Traded in a silver Ford Escort Ghia, auto, with sunroof, 1600 engine, and I bloody loved the car, (it was a goer for sure) but oh, was it a rust box! From that I got the Nissan Micra in March 2003, that I've kept from new.

I'm not a believer in changing cars every few years, just to keep on top of their value.

One of my favourites was a red Capri that I owned for a while.

I had a mini van once clumsy, and a mini clubman later.
If I was driving in heavy rain it used to cough, splutter and conk out because rain used to get through the front grill.

The minis were bad in the wet weather, the points and spark plugs were right behind the grill, I had to have mine caked in damp start, or there were sparks everywhere in the rain.

Yes, but it wasn't funny at the time, specially when you broke down and had to dry everything out.

Really 50th, I thought I was an older driver at 26 when I passed my test.

Well done on doing your test later in life!
