Re: Sent home from School. A Hairy Story

There is a dress code, which includes extreme hairstyles, colour etc, in most schools now and it's there for a reason. This mother will have been told that, she's just trying it on!
It may not affect the girls' education but schools have rules and all kids should abide by them - allowing her to stay at home and flout those rules isn't going to help her education, either.
It looks a b***dy mess anyway!!!

Either the school draws the line somewhere or it doesn't. If it had an 'anything goes' policy the kids would soon be trying to be more audacious than each other. I'm with the school on this one.

Re: Sent home from School. A Hairy Story

Back in the 1960's, I was one of 76 pupils thrown out of school to get their hair cut on the orders of the principal, affectionately known as 'The Gut' because of his resemblence to the Michelin man!

Most boys used the same barber because he had an interesting collection of 'educational' magazines. Of course we couldn't all get in and this attracted the attention of a reporter from the local rag. When he heard what had happened, the local and provincial papers descended on the town complete with cameras lights etc...

It was the talk of the town for ages and it gave the barber a lot of free publicity. This was the last great uniform/haitcut purge . Rules were relaxed for senior pupils and with the end of the 11+ it was the end of an era too.

Re: Sent home from School. A Hairy Story

I had very long hair and was always being told to tie it back, we also had a teacher who would come with a tape measure at the beginning of each term to measure the length of our school dresses, if they were too short we were in big trouble.

I have seen boys as young as 10 with sculptured hair styles. I guess those boys aren't excluded from their schools.

She needs a good clip round the ear

If this girl wishes to get on in the world, then she will have to learn to obey the rules, and that she cannot go through life doing exactly as she pleases.

It is at school these life lessons are learned

Really , What I see is an individual who doesn't want to walk round looking like a clone of 200 or so other pupils .
She might just get on in the world like Mary Quant or all the other Models and artistic females that made it with their different look .

Ask any mod or rocker from the 60's...You can still be an individual without breaking the rules Eliza.

We were very individual out of school and in our free time
