Potatoes, Pasta and Bread contain large amounts of carbohydrates and can seriously add to a weight problem. I used to load up on these prior to running marathons. I don't run marathons any more but still eat lots of these so I will have to be careful.
There is bread and there is bread. The healthiness of bread depends on its ingredients and the way in which it is made imo. The longer the dough is bulk fermented the better the bread is and the easier it is to digest.
