Yeah. There are some great things In China that I would like to see but their animal welfare record is so dire.

This is such an emotive issue. Dogs become loyal family pets, but then so could become any animal. If you eat meat then accept it-rear them with humanity and dispatch them quickly.

It's the 'humanity' bit that's missing in China.

Not in Lanza Tpin only mainland. They also do horrible things to bulls at festivals. They attack them with spears. Horrible sight.

Re: China's Dog Eating festival

Some sites claim that around 40,000 dogs and some 10,000 cats are consumed at this annual festival in Yulin.
Although most sources say far fewer.
Locals reckon that many are farmed or are strays -
but of course they would say that.

IF these animals were bred-for-purpose (farmed) and then transported and slaughtered humanely, I can't see a problem.

After all, whassa difference - beef (veal), lamb, pork, chicken, fish, dog, cat, kangaroo, venison ?

OK, let me beat that old drum.
The number of cats and dogs eaten in China each year is far fewer than the number of small reptiles, birds and little furry creatures maimed, tortured and ripped to shreds by cats, worldwide, every single night !
(Sources will be provided if needed)

A suffering animal is a suffering animal.
Unlike cats and dogs, some to the point of extinction.
I will take people more seriously when I see them actively campaigning for the culling of felines.

Re: China's Dog Eating festival

I owned cats and I loved them-but none so much as my last girl. She did not hunt. Come to think Parsley was not a hunter either -but others were. Yes cats are loving but nasty little predators.

Re: China's Dog Eating festival

But we are not cats who hunt by their very nature we are higher animals .
Many of those dogs so brutally killed are stolen pets .
And the way of despatch is absolutely appalling .
