Why can't you cuddle under the covers with a kindle i always do? I find kindles so much better than a book easier to carry around and also the books you download work out so much cheaper than buying a book. Nope give me a kindle anyday. I actually agree with you Tarantula blimey a first!!

I'm having to smile Deb.
Just how many books do you need when you go away?
One paperback is enough for me.

That is me as well. I love books, the smell, the feel etc, a kindle is a souless thing. True it means you can fill it with many books to take on holiday, but for me it has to be an actual book.

So are mine, but I do have to get rid of some occasionally.

My PC does that to me as well, sometimes, you think a post hasn't posted so you click post again & you get two. It's a pain.

I prefer a book. I know it's less convenient but it feels like a physical companion for the duration of the story. The cover graphics become meaningful. The act of opening it up to allow its printed pages to transport you is an excitement that doesn't diminish.

I tried an audio book once. I know the reader has to read clearly but it was so slow it frustrated the hell out of me. All the enunciations seemed so wrong too. I'll never try them again, unless I could speed it up from a 33rpm to a 45rpm!

I have lots of audio books, various authors, some readers are good, some bad.
I like Tony Robinson reading Terry Pratchett, but a lot of people don't like those because they are condensed books & they find his voice annoying. I have some of the unabridged books too, read by Stephen Briggs.

Soulless ? It's the stories provide the soul IMO I had almost given up reading books they were expensive or I had to buy from charity shops and you never knew what you'd find between the pages so when I was given a kindle it opened the world of new books cheaply.

But all you have is a device with a screen, you can't inhale the smell of a book, new or old, you can't finger the pages. Besides if everyone gave up proper books it would put the manufacturers of book marks out of business.
