In Romania there wasn't even a ceramic thingy, just a hole in the floor tiling with a large footprint either side for you to put your feet on!!!!

Unless careful one can end up with more on one's hands than one expected!

The reason is that there are some who want to dismantle their "logs" to ascertain the state of their digestive system! One can even buy things like lolly sticks to assist the process.

A Spoon would be more useful to me.

I've seen those in many countries, especially in the Middle East. For squatters. I've even seen people squat on western style commodes.

I went to live in South America when I was a young woman and the squat toilet was a huge shock to me !
Also the unfortunate custom of not having locks on the door !

Don’t you get ‘splash backs’ with those type of toilets?
I hope no one puts a camera in them, like the taking of upskirting pics that have been banned!

I found one of those in France. Was busting to go so had to use it. My OH & the two friends we were with guarded the entrance for me. It smelt really bad but I had to use it.
