In 1955 I worked in London at the Strand Palace Hotel at the Chemists and loved to walk in Green Park and listen to the band playing, but now .... no thankyou.

I quite agree Raven a million pounds wouldn't entice me to go to London these days .

I wouldn't want to go to London either and paying that much for a meal is just daft money for daft people who have more money than sense.

At this time of year, all meals out go up in price.
It's time for the Christmas work's night out. So most places double in price.
I would want a lot more than a meal, drink and trip out on a boat in the middle of winter. For the price they want.
More money than sense, if you pay that.

I don't mind splurging once a year or so for something special. I don't like cruising down anything in the cold would be that much fun, though. I mean I'm sure it's warm inside, but a river cruise in warm weather sounds like more fun to me.

I was surprised that so many people mentioned not wanting to go to London... was it London itself or big cities? I love the city, am a city girl born and bred; messing about in a country field in Wellies is the last thing I'd want to do! People are so different, aren't we?

Hi Dandysmom, For me it's any big city, especially London. I hate the noise, pollution, traffic, sooooo many people in a rush. Just turns me cold.

To be honest, I've only been to London twice in my life, and I hated it because I found it to be very unfriendly compared to Northern hospitality but, having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed living in Berlin.

I've no idea why people from other countries make a bee-line for London, apart from the obvious tourist attractions, but all prices are a rip-off so I personally wouldn't recommend it for visitors.

Eileen, there's a mid-way between city life and mucking about in fields in wellies, which I'd hate as well. I'm a townie so an in-betweeny.
