Reuters has obtained exclusive details of internal EU talks over the past month in diplomatic notes, and interviewed four people present at key meetings to verify them. The notes reveal how the EU’s top executives lurched from satisfaction about the vaccination programme to panic.

Some EU officials were already aware in December of delays in vaccine production, the notes show, but the Commission announced ambitious targets nonetheless. The EU initially kept no track of companies’ vaccine doses leaving the bloc, only realising after its own supplies were delayed it could not trace the millions of doses that had already been exported. And as its attempts to win ground by legal means failed, the Commission faced sharp attacks from EU governments on its public communication strategy.
This is shockingly inept. Failure at the highest level.

Still keeping up appearances, when it is obvious how dire the situation has become.

More good news.

Related to that is a great report in The Times about France's failures.
I know The Times is subscription-only but it does have a free trial for those interested, otherwise what follows will give you the general idea.

"France furious as Britain snatches Covid vaccine Valneva deal from under its nose"

"A French vaccine financed by Britain is at the centre of a row over the Macron government’s failure to ensure supplies for its people.

The French government refused to fully fund research by Valneva, a Franco-Austrian startup that has developed its vaccine at its headquarters near Nantes in the Loire region.

Instead, the British backed the development, securing an agreement to supply 60 million doses from a plant in Livingston, West Lothian, starting in October. France will get the vaccine only next year."

'Franck Grimaud, the company’s chief executive, said that several governments had been contacted at the launch of the project. “The UK responded the fastest,” he said.

“In large part no doubt because we already had a base there and also because they believed straight away in our ‘inactivated’ vaccine. They took all the risks . . . and immediately forwarded €96 million to use before the end of December. It’s logical that, under contract, we undertook to deliver to them first.” '

There you go.
That is another example along with Oxford/AZ as to why the UK has been so successful in protecting by vaccination when others have not.

Oh, so they've finally managed to translate it into their many languages, have they?
Now only a few more tiers of government for it to pass through.

The EU can really move when they have to...
at the speed of a snail.

I was hoping that they wouldn't agree !
Then we would be totally out of the EU !
Of course they had to agree didn't they, if they wanted access for
their cars and salads etc ??

Yes, so was I.

I don't want to bore people with repeating it, but we would be better off in many respects if we left completely.

We are already beginning to leave the EU trailing behind in many respects: Covid vaccines, foreign trade agreements and increasing respect from the rest of the world, especially compared to the EU.

You're contadicting yourself.
None of what you have said would be possible if we were not completely outside the EU.
Because (as everybody now realises following the EU's vaccine debacle) the EU would use any means possible to punish the UK if we were to diverge from their regime in any way if we were still bound by their laws and rules.

The in-fighting has really started now. The EU has got it's gloves off ...

I showed this to V just a few minutes ago and she said, "Isn't it lovely, we can sit back now we're out of the EU, and have a damned good laugh at their shenanigans?" I couldn't have said it any better.
