Re: Sir Andy Murray?????

The whole Honours thing is a farce - they're handed out so often and to so many they've gone the way of A levels - is anyone really that impressed anymore if someone says they have an A level? The same has happened with the Honours - who cares if they have one.

Fred Perry the first man to do it, did more for tennis, but the Lawn tennis association disowned him so he went to America and became a citizen there.
Why should a person get rewarded by the country, when the guy is only doing what he loves.

Re: Sir Andy Murray?????

All this fuss reminded me of an encounter between Mick Jagger & the late George Melly at some award ceremony, I forget which.
George bumped into Mick & never short of words commented on Mick’s very wrinkly face,

“Laughter lines” Mick turned his back on George, who replied
“ COme on Mick, nothings that funny”

How times change, not sure the exact age of Mr Murray, but early 70's, my deceased sister advertised a Dunlop tennis racquet on our local radio station, "Tradeio", she received a phone call asking "are there any strings attached", God rest her soul, but the communication was funny (at the time) I suppose.

Re: Sir Andy Murray?????

I was terribly annoyed last night, a programme about Murray was aired earlier than stated, so I never got the Apprentice I had recorded, it is becoming a farce.
He is Scottish and not English, and we are giving him a knighthood, as Barry said over the top.

Re: Sir Andy Murray?????

This pathetic hero worship mania in the media is now getting overwhelmingly tedious and it's high time we kept some sort of perspective.... Murray is a professional sportsman who has done well and credit to him for that, be that is all he's done, he's not found a cure for cancer or anything

Politicians always like to be seen with popular figures because they think it reflects well on them, but really they are just as mercenary as the celebrities that they fete, and as for the rest of the folks that think a tennis player is some sort of national hero just for winning a tournament really need to get out more...

Re: Sir Andy Murray?????

I watched the whole two weeks of Wimbledon, more than I said I was going to do as there was some good matches played.
I cheered Murray in the final, I clapped and cheered when he got good shots in and when he won I smiled and cheered, laughed when he forget to hug his mum.
Wimbledon is now over and I will get back to the gardening and everything else that I put off.
I celebrated that a Brit won. I love it when we do in any sport.
The Ashes starts Wednesday,
