Where I live lots of people ride horses on the minor roads and both riders and drivers show respect for each other. It is sad that cyclists and drivers don't show equal respect for each other
I show a great deal of respect for cyclists who ride sensibly and with regard for other road users - not riding, for example, two abreast on a narrow road.
I am of the firm belief, however, that the present 'lack of respect' between motorists and cyclists is due to the selfish behaviour of many of the cyclists.
This attitude, in turn, is as a direct result of their knowledge that there appears to be absolutely no punishment for their misbehaviour. In fact, giving them carte blanche in this way positively encourages their bad behaviour, along with the ubiquitous 'head cameras' they wear as a 'warning' to motorists that they will be the ones punished regardless of whose actual fault it is.
As far as I'm concerned, the self-centred element of the cycling fraternity deserve to be flattened into the tarmac, preferably by a bus or HGV.
