If was in the clouds not a clear sky . If you think of a huge search light trained on the clouds with the beam removed and instead of a circle of light a changing mass of light that darts in and out of the clouds at speed.

I think it must have been some odd atmospheric thing that was quite localised because I can't find any other reports of anyone seeing it.

It's annoying isn't it! When we see things like that we expect the media to be all over it but they only seem to be interested in the mundane things like what dress Kate is wearing.

There was something on the local weather here about being abe to see the northern lights because the sky was clear.

Wow that is interesting. Seeing the Northern lights is something I really must try to do. They have fascinated me for years and I think it was down to the song 'Northern Lights' by Renaissance.
