There are no tradesmen left, does'nt matter what job you need done, best do it yourself if you can.
Basic skills in the automotive, building and medical professions seem to have vanished
Lads leaving school nowadays who want to learn a trade go to a local college for 2 years, get a diploma for which ever subject they've taken, then get set loose on the public after a year working as an apprentice.
When I left school apprenticeships were a minimum of 5 years, this was working on the job with other journeymen, you don't learn a trade in a college.
Just like those lads in the Vauxhall garage, they're only semi-skilled fitters, good for oil changes and fitting a set of wiper blades on a car but that's about it.
My daughter had a nasty injury to her hand 2 years ago, she spent 2 days in hospital, they put a dressing on for her when she was discharged and it was a disgrace, I took pics of it, I'll try and dig them out and post them.
