Thanks both really brings back memories of my Nan in the garden with the "boiler" you lit a gas flame under it and it took an hour to come to the boil, huge tub she would then chuck in the blue bag and her whites and the rest of the day would be a whirl of scrubbing, washing rinsing and beating items to death to get everything gleaming.

Cuh - you're right there, I'd rush home from work get the dinner started then start on Fabs shirts - they were filthy due to the work he did - me poor hands

The `blue bag`-also used for wasp/bee stings as I remember.
