My god, what criminals !
Tried to catch a fish in a river ? Hang them, I say !

Like to see anyone try to stop me fishing in any river anywhere in Australia.
It's a pretty simple freedom.

Is the UK really that much of a police state - or is there some reason of which I am unaware ?

Re: Sheep killed

You can't fish anywhere without a rod license, I believe, and most rivers are limited to how many day tickets are issued to non members.

Exactly the same here.
I found the remains of a perfectly butchered calf whilst walking my pal's dog.

Carp from the local lakes are also being stolen by Eastern Europeans.

Yes they are criminals. Large Carp cost £thousands and clubs pay big money to stock their waters.

Re: Sheep killed

Well thanks for the info. I am utterly astounded.

Pay a fee - to go fishing ?
Unthinkable.
I look out my front door on the Pumicestone Passage across from which is Bribie Island.
Nearby is the Caboolture River.

I've been a keen angler since I was 5yo and can fish almost anywhere, anytime, for as long as I like.
Sure there are a few 'green zones' which are restricted because they are spawning/habitat areas and
sure, there are legal sizes and some bag-limits on certain species - but apart from that, zilch.

God, I could not survive in "Pommie-prison".

And yes, restocking programs exist to protect fish numbers.
But it is all voluntary.
I was the foundation secretary of the local Fish Restocking Association and served for several years.
Raised heaps of money for the project - which is on-going.
Breed and release fingerlings.

But charging a bloke money to go and cast a line with his kids for an hour or so - even once or twice a year - you've gotta be joking.
And call him a criminal for sharing a healthy outdoor pursuit with his family !!!!???

Bloody glad I live where I do.

Hi

You really need to do some research Pumice about your own Country.

You do need to pay for a recreational fishing licence in some states in Australia, NSW, Western Australia,Victoria.

There was even a proposal to introduce one in your home state last year.

The good thing about the UK is that you do not need a licence to fish in the sea, unlike certain parts of Australia where you have to pay to do so.

I think it was pretty clear I was talking about my own backyard, Swim.

Perhaps I should have said
" God, I could not survive in "Pommie-prison" or any other place they charge a bloke to go fishing !

You're right (again). Proposals to impose 'fishing fees' have popped up in sunny Queensland from time to time.
They never get off the ground - and never will.
In this state, it would be political suicide.
Every second 4WD you see has a large bumper sticker which reads
"I Fish and I Vote"
and there is a registered political party defending the cause.
Whilst small, the preferences allocated by that party can impact on an electoral outcome.
