Many many years ago, when I was single and out and about every day at work, or trawling shops at the weekend, I got into the habit of throwing any change I received at the till into my bag, rather than put it back in my purse. (Unless of course the purchase was only a very small portion of the banknote I'd proffered). So, if I bought something for 75p and got change from a £1 note (yes, it was that long ago ) then the 25p went in the bottom of my bag. If I spent £3.75, the change from my fiver went in the bag.
