That looks simple enough - yew-nan-derra?

You should try some Maori names.
I used to spend a lot of time in a small town called Waikouaiti.
Give that one a whirl.

In Cornwall there is a village called Lanivet, outsiders say Lani vet ( as in animal doctor) .... local people say Lan Livrt .... and if you look at an old map of Cornwall, there is an L in the middle .... LanLivet ...

There are plenty of villages round here whose names are not pronounced as they are written eg. Crovie is Crivie and Alford is Afford. Probably the best is Fanzean - pronounced 'Fingin'. Their local am-dram group once put on a show called 'Fingin in the Rain'!
Another village that has its name often mispronounced (or so a friend who lives there tells me) is Ruthven, which is of course pronounced "Riven".

Fortunately Portknockie cannot really be mispronounced, nor can my home town of Buckie be either. Thank goodness.

Exactly, except that's hardly Doric, ken? Most people would have trouble understanding some of the locals, ken? It's a bit like Rab C Nesbitt who speaks fairly plain English but with an exagerated accent. He uses very few dialect words.

But it is a funny sketch.
