Re: Winter's coming

We donīt get winters here like UK obviously, but we get some very cold days and bitterly cold nights. Everyone around here has spent summer complaining about the heat and humidity, me included, but it wonīt be long now until we are complaining about the cold days and nights and wanting the heat back. To be fair though even the Spanish have complained about the heat and humidity this year, most of the Norwegians went back to Norway for the summer and are now beginning to return, many of the Germans go back too, so it isnīt just the Brits who complain. I will have to do some market shopping for new jumpers, all mine have gone to a dog rescue charity shop and at this moment in time I donīt have even one jumper. According to reports weīve had the hottest summer since records began and I heard on the radio yesterday that England has had the coldest summer ever, the radio report stated that average summer temperatures in
the UK were 13C with high being 17C, but I never really know what they mean by "average".

Re: Winter's coming

What brings it home to you about the changing seasons and the approach of winter again?
Going across the fields to pick hazelnuts and walnuts,
Ordering the garlic bulbs to plant in November,
Mushrooms everywhere ....

Honest Carol, round here, all the pretty summer colours are going off the rails and being replaced by horrid dark colours. Like you, I don't like 'em at all.

Yes Doc, but not quite sure what the difference is.

Plus never get mushrooms here which is strange as the fields are full of horses.

Re: Winter's coming

talking of british seasons and their changes evokes so many memories for us expats. we know you have your seasons but we once shared them many moons ago. so it's not just the knowing but the feeling.

memories of childhood seasons, young married seasons, and of course I've missed out on the middle aged and old aged seasons. thanks for the memories - I guess that's why we visit here?

Re: Winter's coming

Like you Mupps, I feel sad at the obvious signs of winter. The clearing away of Summer plants for winter bulbs, not nearly so pretty, having to draw the curtains earlier at night ,no more days out, coming home after being out somewhere to find the light is fading. I do love the Autumn if we get nice weather, but the rain and darkness are so dismal.

What Rose did you buy ? I want a nice fragrant bush ros or patio rose.Ive looked around a little but havent seen one .Any Tips please ,also where to buy from.? A friend has one called Anniversary ,very highly scented, but when I asked at a garden centre for it they asked me ' What anniversary it was for '!!
