Not at all doctors Eliza. Being diabetic and having survived cancer they take lots of blood tests, but they don't always check for vitamin deficiencies. It took me 5 years to get a test for Vit D, even though they take blood from me 3 or 4 times a year.

I agree Twink.
I've had regular blood tests for various reasons but needed to ask specifically for vitaminD to be included.
I think it has to be a separate test.
The private health checks like Blue Crest charge a whopping extra £30 if you want VitaminD!!! The cheek of it!!

Apparently they cannot check for Vitamin D if the blood is exposed to the light. Perhaps they charge the £30 to cover the cost of the dark cloth they put over you to keep out the light.

I wouldn't know about the dark cloth!!

I certainly wasn't going to fork out £30 for something the doctor will do for nuttin' !!

These 'research' people make me laugh!

I don't take any supplements at all - unless you count cod liver oil capsules - and I have not had a cold for about 30 years and have never had 'flu at all.

As for Vit D - don't we absorb that from sunlight/daylight? Good excuse to forget the pills and go out more!!

ST, As we were advised to keep out of the sun as it could cause skin cancer, l dodged the sun and ended up with a Vitamin D deficiency!

My GP reckons we could all lay outside naked all winter and still not absorb enough vitamin D. Mine was down to 3 in the middle of the summer, it's supposed to be 100. Only high dose tablets got it back up.

One of my lady doctors said something similar Julie. You don't think they are trying to start a 60's style "Love in" do you?
