A wild cat which escaped from a Ceredigion zoo has been "humanely destroyed", the county council has confirmed.

Lilleth, the Eurasian lynx, escaped from Borth Wild Animal Kingdom, near Aberystwyth, at some point in the last three weeks.

The council said that despite "exhaustive multi agency efforts to recapture" it, they received advice on Friday that the risk to public safety had increased.

Murdering swine!
If they were close enough to do that they could have used a tranquiliser!

Re: missing lynx - are you scared ?

Hi

Lynx are more scared of humans than we are of them.

I could have understood it if it had have been a big cat or a wild boar, they are dangerous.

I heard a report that the animal park does not understand why the council destroyed the animal. I too cannot understand why they didn't tranquillise.

It really is sad. The European Lynx is an endangered species, their location in Spain is kept as secret as possible, but not too long ago one was found run over and that made the national news.

Yes, they were talking about it on the radio today Annie.
Apparently the animal park are hopping mad with the council for ordering marksmen "shoot to kill."

Very sad ... and wrong. So very wrong.
I understand the fears that she may have strayed into a holiday caravan park.
But .. she was found asleep underneath one of the caravans and instead of tranquilised ... what shot dead.

It would appear that the owners and staff of this zoo have no idea whatsoever of how to handle their animals, or animal welfare. What a tragedy and a disgrace.

Re: missing lynx - are you scared ?

My understanding is that the new owner only acquired the business 6 months ago.
