Re: Would You Leave Your Body to Medical Science..

I have already signed the papers, Roxy, and given permission for them to keep any tissue samples they may need.

They keep and use a body for about three years - then it may be returned to the family for burial or it can be left to them to cremate - the choice is yours when you sign the papers. I don't believe in funerals - so I have left it to them to dispose of my remains as they see fit.

The bodies are treated with respect and are noted in a book of remembrance - a lot of places also have a memorial service to which relatives may be invited. I have opted out of that.

One thing to remember though - I you leave your body to science - it precludes you from being an organ donor - so you must make sure that it is written into your medical records.

I would have no problem with any of my family's bodies being used to aid medical science.

It certainly makes more sense to use humans - and not animals!

That is why I signed the papers.

Animals have their uses in aiding medical science, I have no problem with that either.

When my daughter was at medical school, she and her colleagues attended the memorial services which, I felt, was respectful.

Re: Would You Leave Your Body to Medical Science..

I carry an 'Organ Donation' card - the NHS can have any part of me they want which if it can be put to good use inside another person - sobeit!!! Therefore in answer to the original question - no, because (hopefully) there will be little left of me for medical science to profit from.

Sadly. animals are used when they are alive not dead.
