As you say money isn't everything. the problem with working for the same company for a good number of years is they take advantage of you. That is what happened with me after 23 years of working for BT. You are no longer a person just another item to shove around .
it will seem strange at first finding out how things tick. Maybe the company your leaving will realise how valuable you actually were to them, but too late.
Not having the pressure and stress and impossible targets to meet is like a huge weight off ones shoulders. Having gone it alone (with Sue) with our own business made me realise there is life outside work, even though it was longer hours.
You like me got to a point where you had to do something or be stuck in the same rut for the rest of your working life. Yes it is a risk but one well worth taking, so good on you for moving on.
For anyone else thinking about changing jobs I can highly recommend working for yourself, once you find something you like doing that is. Far better to put money into your pocket than greedy bosses ones.
If it worked for us then it can be the same for everyone, you just have to take the chance
