Re: A better world wish

I would make all parents bring up their children properly, to include honesty, to love and value animals and people, strength to face life's pitfalls and get up again, help anyone who really needs it, the list goes on.

Ban taxation on folk who work for a pittance, ban Council Tax on pensioners and introduce a whole new package to the over-60s who have worked for a minimum of 45 years full time. Give us back in the pension about a third of what we've put into the system, weekly.

We can't help getting older, but people are staying alive a lot longer these days because of medical assistance, so let us at least spend the rest of our days without money worries.

I don't mind carrying on working as I'm still able, but some old darlings can't, and can barely manage on the pension, and that is definitely not right!

Pensioners should be able to live out whatever's left of their lives without having to scrimp for the next loaf of bread, or meet the next gas payment. This is the 21st century, but we still have a lot to learn.

That rang a chord with me I have been conducting a 'trial' and as soon as I get the new computer up and running I won't be going anywhere near it

Yesterday they announced that anyone who posts on their 'wall' (AKA the public forum) any comment about a product which is positive will have that comment and their photograph 'sold' on to the manufacturer for advertising purposes, it's all legal and in the terms & conditions Of course 99% of people who sign up never read them

So if you happen to write "Oh yes I like my xxxxx" a few months latter you will see "The Dog Lover from London likes xxxxx" and a big photo of you on the side of the packet, or bottle, or whatever. You won't get any money but that particular social network will get lots grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Good post Mollie.

Would that we could ban all forms of suffering and stress.

Re: A better world wish

Thanks for your post, lass. Just my little contribution.

As to Facebook. I have strived in my own way to get people to steer clear of it, but some folk see it as a way to stay in contact with family members. Why can't they just email each other?

Facebook should be banned because it causes an awful lot of grief to people, if only they realised it.

Any global networking site that can use ideas, thoughts or simple conversation, including your photo legally, is to be definitely avoided.

That site has been used for grooming young children into child pornography. It has been used for seeking out opposing members who have had altercations resulting in one murdering another - believe it or not - over a game of football. It is a site which habours not only nice people, but seriously unhinged people as well and I for one would never dream of signing up to such a place.

Just a couple of years ago an American man was arrested for tempting away a 14 year old Wigan girl. It went through Wigan Magistrates' Court and he was was incarcerated. The girl luckily was found to be in good health. Anyway, it's a long story, but she was fine in the end.

Ban Facebook is what I says!

Mollie, just so you know, I was not keen on it, I joined because I knew my old computer was going to be replaced and someone from Dogsey asked me (twice) to join.
I thought I would try a little experiment and set up a control group to see how it worked.

Here's a summary of the seven 'friends' that I accepted
1) Someone who has children and grandchildren, she obviously likes to keep in touch, and uses it like a private network, but of course it's not, without even trying I found loads of information on her 18 year old grandaughter such as where she was working one day, who her friends were, and of course I could have 'claimed' to know her mother.
2) One person who never posted, apart from once to say she was going out to get plastered
3) One person who used it as a private 'club' network for her hobby, nothing wrong with that, but hardly interesting if you were not into that particular club activity (All totally legal and above board of course)
4) The person who invited me to join, posted hundreds of messages about everything she was doing, including in the bath (but only really to demonstrate she had an iphone or whatever that worked without wires) narcissistic is the word I think.
5) One from Dogsey, who was having problems with one person over there (I suggested she just use the 'ignore' button )
6) and 7) Pretty normal people who just used it as a means of 'talking' to local friends that just didn't meet up all that often, again nothing wrong with that but not really of much use to me since I will never be in that area.

So that's it, I am determioned to keep virus's and malware out of this new computer and looking at some of the links on FB I was horrified at the sources, most dodgy if you ask me, and I'm certain my old machine picked up something nasty from them.

Re: A better world wish

Ban nuclear energy, ban the atomic bomb.
Otherwise further nuclear disasters like the recent ones in Japan and even nuclear war are a certainty.
Most reactors in America are at or approaching 40 years of age, and their owners want approval to extend their lives!
At least we, in Europe are taking these older reactors off line to inspect them.
On-site waste storage has also been an issue of some concern with recent events.

And where does nuclear waste go? Down a hole in the ground?
