Re: What are you having for lunch/dinner?
Sunday today and the whole tribe are decending on us, so I'm doing roast beef and all the accompaniements. As for dessert, I don't care what they say - I'm having my way and I don't care if it is old fashioned. We are having a beautiful Black Forest Gateau I found in the freezer - left over from Easter.Re: What are you having for lunch/dinner?
UJ, I have no idea how you manage some of your meals! For instance your double salmon steak starter above would have been more than enough for me, in fact just the one steak would have been sufficient. Oh to be sure would have loved to have continued with the roast, just could not find anywhere to put it.Re: What are you having for lunch/dinner?
I could have managed much of that a few years ago you train yourself to eat larger amounts over many years, it was only when I realised it wasn't hunger but gluttony I managed to stop it. At a point now where I also couldn't eat it but I do understand how it can be done.Re: What are you having for lunch/dinner?
A number of years ago I developed a condition known as achalasia, it actually took many years to diagnose in fact. Basically what happens is that the peristaltic action in the oesophagus ceases, and the sphincter into the stomache gradually closes up until it is almost closed completely! (Make a fist then look at the teeny tiny space barely visible in the curl of your index finger and you get the idea of how small)Anyway, by the time it reached what is known as 'end stage' I could barely eat without extreme discomfort as the oesophagus was stretched so much (a barium 'swallow' X-Ray showed what looked like a wine bottle standing on its rim with a cotton thread dangling down). Eventually I was living on that stuff you drink when de-hydrated, you get it in sachets and totally forget the name (doh), I was literally having a teaspoon every hour or so. Anyway my point is that even though they can snap the sphincter back open, it never entirely closes again thus reflux can occur if I am not careful, and the peristalsis never returns so food has too sit there until it eventually works its way down. Hence small meals are vitalRe: What are you having for lunch/dinner?
We too had roast beef, with roast spuds, carrots, peas broccoli and cauliflower some teeny yorkshires found in freezer, and loads of thick and tasty 'proper' gravy to help it down, took a while, but boy was it wprth it! followed, albeit an hour later by fresh strawberries and some clotted cream ice cream. Well, thought as bloods had been good, could splash out.
