Insert British for American and you will have the majority view of the people in this country.

Re: Syria - US ships move in!

We are probabley more easily separated from the Middle East than Europe is. We get most of our oil from Latin America and Canada.. AND we have some pretty good wells off the Gulf coast and the Alaskan coast. We produce 40% of our oil needs here at home. In addition we have huge areas to set up solar fields and wind farms. I wish the USA would completely let the Middle East alone.. I know using good old Yankee ingenuity.. we will meet our energy needs if we are forced to.

That is how I've come to feel. The cuts being imposed in Britain are quite savage, what pensioners have to live on is unbelievable (if they don't have private pension plans already in place), not enough nurses to man hospital wards, people being forced to sell their homes so that they can fund their place in an old people's home - yet the Government readily found £54m to send to Syria. I don't mind helping others but what about the people in our country that are going hungry and cold because they're too afraid of eating enough or putting the heating on and ending up with bills they can't pay.

Totally agree, ben-varrey
I also find it hard getting my head around some of the countries we give aid.

Some of it isn't aid exactly though it's bribes to get them to trade with us. I would feel better if they called it what it is and then let us decide if we want to contribute to it.

I don't care what they call it - there's an old saying that very apt here: put your own house in order first.

I don't believe it's about trading - out of all the countries in the world trying to sell their goods, why would they have go with ones that need bribing?

I am so afraid Obama is going to attack anyway... even if he doesn't get the vote in Congress.. Unfortunately... he can.. There is the "War Powers Act" that Bush got passed giving the President that option. If that happens I will be totally disgusted..
