Re: Strange Sayings

My older brother and me spent most of our childhood with our paternal grandmother, she was originally a country woman who later was ‘in service’ in a big house in Liverpool before she married and moved back to Dublin with her husband. She had some strange sayings, to this day I don’t know what half of them meant.
“I fell over a hen and cock pecked me” If you asked her what happened to her when she nicked herself peeling potatoes or whatever.
“It’s a letter from Fox” She always said that If she got post and you asked her what it was, who the hell was Fox?
“It’s far from your arse you won’t sit on it” If you went crying to her with a minor wound.
“There’s ol’ go be the wall and tickle the bricks” Looking out the window and referring to a neighbour who came home drunk every night.
“Shy but willing like a jackass eating thistles”

And many more I can’t think of just now.
