"Never cast a clout till May is out" my mother used to say - meaning don't be fooled into taking off your thermals till May is out.
However I used to give her a bit of cheek and say "ooh, good, that means I can't get a wallop till the end of May". (That's in the days when parents could still give us "a thick ear")

Arthur matey, if your joints hurt it either IS raining or freezing cold, or it will be one or other or both very shortly.
