Did you get wonderful colours with the Iris's?
I just watched the clip with the kitchen garden and it surprised me, I never watched it on the tele, I always thought it would be way over my head and boring, it isn't at all, thanks for that.
Nothing spectacular, Val; iris genetics is VERY complicated, especially when you're crossing species: tall bearded (Iris germanica) and Oncocyclus. But it is great fun to see your seedlings bloom. No crosses set this year unfortunately, a lot of rain during bloom season, damp pollen and incompatible parents. Sigh. Wait till next year!
I had to copy this from the internet
This is a not a heritage but specialist variety, and mainly available in USA and Canada. It is a very attractive, bold, yellow baking variety which stands out visually from other varieties. Great buttery flavour. Boiling qualities are surprisingly good.
I'd never heard of this variety, it sounds like the sort you need on Guy Fawkes night, baked, hot and dripping with butter.Yummy.
I didn't realize you didn't have them in the UK; they are really delicious. I think they're equally good for both baking and boiling; hope they will do well for me.
