Re: Yet another new keyboard

Looks interesting Mart, thanks. I assume they're available in UK.

I worked out the I've been paying £4 a month to use my Microsoft keyboards. And they say it's normal wear and tear.

Ah, I'm glad someone's had the idea of how to solve what must be a common problem!

Just be aware that it's for an American keyboard, so may not have a £ symbol (the Americans being American!).

The one linked to below looks to be it, even though mine has a different model number. The price is about what was paid for mine.

The only part that has worn off is the logo on the palm rest.

Re: Yet another new keyboard

I have the same problem with my keyboard on my laptop. within the year letters started to disappear! and now I only have about 8 letters showing!
I'm a touch typist so it shouldn't bother be really, but I find myself hitting the wrong keys and having to look back and correct my words LOL.
I've had the stick on letters from Amazon and they come off just the same (well they did with me) so now I have a permanent white marker pen (from ebay) which I penned the letters on with and then clear nail varnish over them.
when the varnish starts to wear off I just go over it again.

Ah, so the stick-ons aren't any better.
It's funny isn't how you look at the keyboard more once the letters start disappearing! Daft even!!
Since I last posted in this thread, the O is completely gone, and the A has probably got another week's life in it! The E might last another 2-3 weeks! I'm good for a while yet!

Re: Yet another new keyboard

So it's not just me! I thought maybe my skin secreted some kind of acid that disolved the paint. How long have computer keyboards been around? Why is this still a problem after all these years? Am I the only one who's complained about it? I complained to Microsoft and got no response (big surprise there), and I've posted on blogs and forums and now on here.
This is the first time I've had confirmation that it's not just my problem. Why has nothing been done about this? Is it beyond the ability of even the mighty Microsoft to make a permanent paint?

Re: Yet another new keyboard

heres the funny thing though.

My windows7 laptop which I've had a helluver lot longer than this one, NOT ONE letter has rubbed away, not even round the edges!
so it could be like everything else they use cheap crap for the keyboards.

Re: Yet another new keyboard

I have a spare Mac keyboard, which I prefer, but some keys work differently, so it is back in the drawer.

Years ago, I worked with a South African, Mrs Lillian Malt. She studied how compositors worked, and she designed the Maltron Keyboard, which had the key set in two "bowls" relating to the length of the digits. They are still made, but for specialist applications. See http://www.maltron.com/shop/category/141-united-kingdom
