I repeat: Brown was a good
Tory chancellor, whatever his party label.
Managed deregulation was very much needed when the Conservative government came into office and was part of the get well program desperately needed to pull the UK back from where it had been left teetering on the brink.
But when it comes not to deregulation but deliberate disconnection of things that should absolutely NOT be disconnected from political responsibility then that is where the wheels come off and that is what Brown did.
Instead by giving control of the nation's MONEY directly to the BoE with no government involvement other than tell the BoE chairman the rate of inflation that was the target and leave it to the BoE HOW they achieved it while at the same time taking away the tools to make it happen -----.
His reasons for doing so are obvious and disgusting.
Then the sale of our gold reserves. The only way that he undertook that can be described as lunatic quite apart for why he did so. That in itself was scandalous.
Let's not forget the infamous raid into the workers pension scheme.
That bit of skullduggery broke the Final Salary Pensions for millions of workers.
And there really is so very much more.
As for represent Thatcherite principals, my only comment is that if anyone thinks for a New York Second that is the case then they plainly have absolutely no understanding of what Mrs Thatcher was all about.
