Cats don't really make that distinction. They might follow you, groom you, sleep with you regularly. But you are a human and they are cats, therefore superior of course.
Dogs are pack animals - cats are not. Dogs have a common need to co-operate with each other. Cats do not. The tail wagging, licking, posturing, etc. displayed by dogs is not always dependent on who is the most or least dominant - these things are essential communication tools dogs employ because they are social animals. Two strange cats will generally square up to each other and frequently fight - two strange dogs do not, but will ritualistically observe the canine rules which allow them to safely get to know each other. They will then usually play or ignore each other - a "normal" dog will only fight as a last resort or if it has been poorly socialised. Cats seem to enjoy spitting and scrapping with each other.
IMO dogs have the better characteristics - they are more like us than cats. Therefore, dogs are definitely superior to cats.
I think it is true that - A cat has no particular affiliation to its owner - it just wants someone to feed it and somewhere warm to sleep.
