Re: Win 10 worse than a blasted, pushy door to door salesman

I'm never going to understand the passion over this topic. I've gone to Windows 10, it works fine and life goes on.

My choice is to use W.10 until it proves bad in one way or another. It might never do so. I'm fairly sure I won't start to hate Windows 10 or its updates. However, I also don't put all of my eggs in one basket. I wouldn't be unfamiliar with using a different platform if I grew to dislike Microsoft and Windows 10 as much as some.

Worth remembering is that any version of Windows is a result of the work and actions of Microsoft.

Re: Win 10 worse than a blasted, pushy door to door salesman

Mart, for me it's about being in control of what I want. I bought a laptop with Windows 8 and that's what I want to use. I don't want to be bombarded with something I don't want

I loved XP but that laptop broke down.
So the next laptop had Vista, which I wasn't keen on TBH.
That laptop broke down and so now I have this one and it has Windows 8.

I'm used to it now. In time I may want W10, but for now I want to be in control of what I want which is not to be bombarded with W10

I also preferred XP but when you but a new lap top or pc, you don't get to choose what operating system you get.

Personally I never allow any updates apart from anti virus. What the hell can they be improving constantly? Apple updates are the worst. Just a sure fire way of losing all your music.

Personally Mart, I have no complaints with Microsoft products, and as I said earlier when this computer finally gives up the ghost I will willingly accept the latest Microsoft product, be it windows 10 or any other manifestation microsoft choose to inflict on the public.

However, new machines are built to accept larger and more advanced programs and operating systems. But older machines can not keep accepting updates and modifications with their limited memories and speeds without eventually finding their limits, just ask Morty! Proof of the pudding etc......

Stop the updates now Morty, if you don't want to spend your time messing with the computer instead of perusing the forum and delivering you exciting comments.

I agree with that Longdogs, except if you buy one just at that point where a new OS is just being brought in so have a choice of the old or the new

I always thought one (ooh I sound posh there) should always update the operating system for newly found flaws or whatever they call them. I do know one (there I go again being posh) can check before updating what they are and if needed. (Not that I'd understand them anyway)

The thing is, whilst they are pushing everyone to upgrade to W10, they are already working on W12

I don't know if linking to another forum is on but the link can always be broken if not. I often go to Wilders Security Forum to read about security and computer related topics. The thread linked to below makes an interesting (but maybe a bit technical) read about Windows 10 updates. See HKEY1952's posts. I suppose this won't be relevant to those not switching to W.10 but it perhaps does widen the scope of opinions about the topic:

It's true. I once attended a two week very intensive course learning computer networking. When the course had finished, the tutor said 'Of course, what you have studied is virtually obsolete now, so you need to take another course'. I didn't. I became a porn star instead. (Ok, that isn't true)

it's true ... I've got limited memory and speed now and can't be doing with trying to second guess Microsoft.
Having mulled it all over .. I've stopped the automatic updates ... a simple solution for a simple pig.

Exciting? Get away with ya .. you cheeky hunk.
With all this ferreting about I've discovered stuff in my laptops innards I never knew existed ... and don't wanna know about.
I did read somewhere online whilst exhausting my pea brain over this that Microsoft have currently got it installed on 300 million computers globally .. and the hard sell is to fulfil their ambition of having it on one billion by 2 to 3 years from it's launch.
And .. it will only continue to be a free download until July 29th, which is the first anniversary of its launch.
After that . everyone who accepted the free original version is to be offered a free download for the next batch of improvements.
There's something to look forward to.
