OK, here are mine.
I used to be a crack darts player, but I lost form & eventually after being demoted from singles player to doubles & finally the fours, I gave up. I really don't miss going out in all weathers in Winter to the various pubs & clubs where we played either.
I used to look after & ride lots of horses for various people. I loved it, but an illness made me stop, around the same time I gave up darts, so that could also have been when I lost form.
I used to bird watch & Dartmoor letterbox, all stopped because of my illness. I am fairly well now with medication, but it was too late for me to go back to doing the latter & the other things, but I still bird watch on a smaller scale.

Instead of those, with my Daughter we started a hobby, buying at car boots & auctions & other places & selling at fairs, flea markets & also car boots. We still do this. It kind of makes up for the other things I no longer do.
I hope this is what you mean, MKJ.

Kinda .

In your case your illness can be construed as 'experience' which now limits your choice of pursuits. 'Wisdom' is partly derived from experience but it isn't the full picture. It doesn't explain my change of attitude to various blood sports for instance.

Is socialism an abomination when you think in these terms? If it is then which is the right path to take?
I think there is enough substance above to make this thread an extremely long one.

Maybe you just grew up & got a conscience.
I have heard of people who used to shoot animals for fun becoming wildlife conservationists. Ditto birders, who stole eggs & shot birds then turned to just watching & filming them instead.

Oh baldocks ones mind is as sharp as ever if it was ever sharp.
It's just that the body can't do what it used to do .
It the mind just works on self preservation a bit more .
I don't ride young horses any more they are too unpredictable and my mind tells my body to beware if I fall off I will break a hip and that's curtains the start of the downward slope .
So it's wise to listen to ones mind

Indeed. Opened up another avenue for debate - 'The Conscience' . Plenty to get my teeth into now .
