Re: Old wives tales

I heard, if a pregnant woman touched her tummy whilst watching a cow give birth, her baby would be born deformed.
I remember, a local woman whose child was born with a club foot blamed it on watching a cow give birth!

As a child I was told not to pick dandelions as it would make me wet the bed.

You should never give a knife or scissors to a friend unless you want to sever the friendship.
Whistling women are bad luck, so are crowing hens!
Wearing green is bad luck, my Mum wouldn't let us wear anything green, now I wear it quite a lot.
That explains it then!

Another old one from the bloke who `gave` me the knife.

Wind in the East the fish bite least

Wind in the West the fish bite best.

Re: Old wives tales

I remember that opals are unlucky I don't know why either but a really good friend was left a most beautiful opal ring by her mum who died very young. My friend in turn died very young too. I often wonder what happened to that ring
