well I greet yuz all at approx 7.17am western seaboard time but 10.17 eastern seaboard time - that's because someone has stretched the country and instead of looking like a plum Mcduff puddin we look more like a rolly polly sausage!I think someone set off 6 fireworks in our little 'village' 'hamlet' whatyouwill - but I didn't see them or even hear them although I was up past the witching hour. the difference as Pug points out between 2017 and 2018 is so miniscule why bother to celebrate it at an enormous cost and an event that scares all the animals [well at least the domesticated ones] in the kingdom.
where there any firework displays before Guy Fawkes - NO - I blame him for turning us all into loony cracker lighters!!

MAYBE,spitfire,my good friend gumbud was INFORMED of these proceedings and happenings,thus making the actual number of incendiary devices a subject for numerical postulation and therefore open to prosaic numeracy,as opposed to literal accordance with facts....hmm?...alternatively,as you so rightly say,he may merely have thought of a number,then doubled it...

ReflectingLast year I was celebrating the New Year in Toronto.
Although we were offered free tickets for 'The Game' on New Year's Eve, followed by a concert to see Bryan Adams. We declined as Ice Hockey meant nothing to us. We Went to China Town, had a lovely meal, returned to the hotel and had drinks with fellow guests, before going to watch the fireworks.
After the fireworks, we returned to our hotel to find the bar closed!
Luckily we had plenty of alcohol in our room, so sat in the lounge for a few nightcaps. We had not sat for long before the revellers returned from their game, and asked to join us. They also had beers etc in their rooms.
As I am a smoker and so were many of them, we went just outside for a ciggy. There were groups of people all returning home full of cheer. They spotted our little group and came over, wishing us Happy New Year and kissing all. They stayed, and joined our what started as a little drink, turned into a party! Spontaneity my friends - You cannot beat it.

Ferzacally!!ah Toronto does come to mind - a few years back I'd been watching a Canadian sitcom which was unusual to be showing on OZ tv - plenty of yankie ones but not CA - it was called " Corner Gas" a quirky little number - just a hoot. could not find an outlet to purchase anywhere in OZ.
Finally found a store in Toronto that claimed it had it - and it sure did - put me order in with me cashcard number and over it came - excellent service.

whilst residing in "Honkers" we had some friends who wanted to have a sort of second honeymoon in Europe without the kids and asked us if we could accommodate them for 5/6 weeks - sounded great for the kids too as they were mates with ours.when they arrived back and as a thank you gesture they took us all to Macao which was still vaguely independent then with a buzzing casino or two and well just a quieter life style to HK. Gentle one hour ferry to Macao or noisy hovercraft - we took the ferry - passports had to been presented but once we got there it could have been a million miles away from HK - returning was quiet dismal!!

We didn't see the nude ear in but heard the fireworks on the seafront many km away, then revellers passing by in the early year of the morning
Someone's dog was barking for hours as well but we haven't worked out where it lives yet, then my Lovely and I were woked by five almighty bangs starting around 5.30 ack emma. At first I thought the first two were Lifeboat maroons going off but not when the next three came along. I have no idea what they were, but they sounded like a cannon going off curtesy of the Ministry of Loud Bangs.
