People just use words that are meaningful to them. It's not about being disrespectful, it's about what you know. There's far too much made of these silly things nowadays. And.....look at the state of the world in general! Has it helped? Not a jot! Not to me anyway

My mum got caught out with this quite recently and her reply was much the same as mine would have been.. ' go away decide on a term and then let me know but stop keep changing your damn minds'

This is simply a case of people finding offense where none was intended and for those not in the know the term has changed , where black was once offensive and coloured considered polite , the reverse is now true..

That Dome ward sounds too much like Doom as Mags thought it said Alice, I'd prefer to be in a geriatrics ward, look what happened to the London Dome...Doomed and it wasn't even sick.

the pronunciation of the word'dome' and 'doom' are quite different but I suppose if you are the kind who sees doom all around you'll lean to doom and not dome - my original suggestion stands - lets move away from the Greek.

Well made me think of under the dome the book and TV show imagined a crazed manager wandering around killing those in his way. Possibly not the best image for a hospital

Do you know I must be a bit daft, I can't understand this hang up on words, please accept that I am only a retired refrigeration engineer and I don't have a degree but what is wrong with with word " geriatric " it would be fine if you called me that in a few years time. It's just like lesbian or gay, I don't find the terms at all offensive, am I missing something, please put me straight, I think I have lost the plot !
