Re: Democracy
I think that democracy is the best way to go.
However, I am, as are many others, totally fed up with pre-election promises, which are only made to get my vote.
For me to vote in future elections, I shall want a couple of things to change (well, a lot, really, but start with these)
1) Any candidate should hand me a list (signed by himself) which states the key points he will vote for/support. Maximum spends, etc
For example, if he said he would support HS2, that would result in a negative in my thinking.
2) The Party must keep me (us?) up to date on progress against those promises.
It should be a bit like "pay for performance" but not in a financial sense.
Running late would be a failure.
Going over budget another failure.
I'd then expect the Party to publish annual lists of what was promised versus he/she achieved. No ifs, no buts.
We have to get somewhere where the responsibility is understood.
