Re: Should voting be made compulsory?
I have been in two minds about this up to now, but I now believe that voting should not be compulsory.
For one thing, if someone really doesn't want to vote for some personal reason, obliging him to visit the polling station and complete a voting form could result in him spoiling his paper to show his objection.
On the other hand, if the reluctant voter is just lazy and can't be bothered, perhaps it's best to leave him be. If he has no serious convictions, why should his vote count? Leave it to those who have serious opinions.
