Re: Our roads

Hi

I have no problem with cyclists not paying road tax.

I do however feel that they should have a number plate and compulsory insurance.

I have had my car badly scratched by an inconsiderate cyclist.

I also feel that they should observe the rules of the road, especially at Traffic Lights.

By far the majority of them do so in my experience.

Re: Our roads

I do have insurance cover. I bought some that was specific to cyclists. I'd still have to pay quite an excess but if I caused an accident, I'm covered for being sued. I believe those who belong to cycling clubs are required to have insurance too. That would be many of the keen Lycra-clad types of cyclist that we see I would think.

Like everyone else, I have seen some bad cyclists (as well as bad motorists). It's the bad ones that stick in the mind. The majority are OK though and probably go unnoticed to a great degree because they abide by the rules and don't do anything wrong.

I wonder if some of the reason for motorists getting upset with cyclists is because cycling is a faster way of getting around in towns and cities? Cyclists get to their destination whilst drivers sit in the comfort of their cars going nowhere fast.

I think it is because they are sad old buggers who resent the freedom of the bikes, which is more or less what you have said, sad miserable people.

You are no doubt a responsible person. Unfortunately, that cannot be said of many cyclists for the reasons I have mentioned earlier.

For that reason, I suspect that they don't bother with insurance as there is little chance of them being sued after causing an accident if they can happily disappear, safe in the knowledge that they cannot be identified.

Re: Our roads

Came home today and the A24 in West Sussex is getting a resurface on a road that seems fairly OK to us, yet still further in the journey we are dodging and weaving around huge potholes in Surrey. Just daft.
