Dont run a business whatever you do.

Do you think the british tax payer would be happy that the government awarded a contract for passports to a company that's the most expensive just because they are in the UK ?

This is a problem for the company in the uk. It should have invested to be more competitive.
The latter is exactly what many leave voters expected and voted for. The "bumpy ride" and "taking back control" implied paying more in order to keep everything in house.

well that is a dire indictment of our future economic prowess if we cannot produce anything competitively because we have to pay staff and suppliers massive premiums.

No problem.

Paying a little more will, in the long term, be made up for by no longer paying to subsidise the EU!

the government paid for the latter through borrowing. So the government should pick up any extra costs for Brexit too!

Production in the UK is expensive, yes, but the price of a passport made in britain would post brexit be the same as the new ones made on the continent.
Why? Because you have to import them now from france, and there will be a tarif added to the price? But the colour couldn't be more chique: french navy blue.

Re: 'iconic,' blue post-Brexit passports made in Poland by French-Dutch co

I was thinking of getting a British passport when my Australian passport expires because the British one is cheaper.

It turns out that it is not that much cheaper $212 (£86 plus £20 courier fee) compared to $298 and is now a bloody sight more complex. Because my last British passport expired in 1982 I have to apply as if for a first passport and have an interview (presumably at the Consulate in Sydney but that was to be advised).

Until a while ago you could go to a Post Office and they would handle your application (it was dealt with in NZ) but now it is handled by somewhere in Liverpool, UK and all documents have to be sent there.

Too complex just to save $80.

Changes advised here:

Tell that to the company that lost the contract it's nothing to do with Brexit

Your solution is for these companies to import the cheapest labour you can get from Poland and get them to bring the price down by paying them nob all and forcing them to live 5 people to a bedroom.

If you thought before you posted you would see your actually more Brexit than you think.

That's hilarious !

Your problem is not only that you haven't a clue about trade you also still don't actually know where you were born.

Re: 'iconic,' blue post-Brexit passports made in Poland by French-Dutch co

Only Remainers care about the colour of passports.

The reason the passports are cheaper abroad is because the EU subsidises companies to move production to low wage areas where they set up new factories and all the hard won terms and conditions are binned.

UK print companies are employing workers, and their forebears, who have spent 100 years improving terms and conditions to the point where an average print worker/ink manufacterer earns over £35,000 per year.

Under EU competetive tendering rules, Gov't contracts must be open to the whole EU.............Therefore it is probably inevitable that a contract such as this would be won by a foreign printer with a facility in Eastern Europe.......Won't happen post Brexit.

Btw, I worked in the print inustry for 12 years and the company I worked for, a global company, was regularly buying up smaller companies, shutting them down and building new, subsidised, factories in Eastern/Southern Europe and transferring the work there.
