Well that's what I think ought to happen, but how do you explain the (apparently frequent) occurrence of criminals being sentenced to a specific time and being released after about half of that period?

If that's the case, I'm a 'pooter man'.
Isn't a pooter man one who pootles?

Because in most cases they were NOT given a Life sentence with a tariff attached....just a sentence for a more minor crime....such as a year for shoplifting and out in 6 months sometimes even less.

Kenny Noye had a tariff of 16 years he will be released this year after serving 16 years if he had misbehaved he would have served longer.

The tariff is the minimum served of a life sentance

It's a phrase we used when boating.
Rather than say 'jeez, I can't afford the 200lt of diesel per hour at 25 knots'
We'd say 'I'm in the mood for a nice pootle back to the marina'
Translates to '10 knots is such an economical 40lts per hour'

Add that to the fact he'll be on licence for the rest of his life, unable to travel abroad and a minor offence(breach of licence) could result in him returning to prison for the remainder of his life sentence.

I couldn't care less if a prisoner does or doesn't serve his/her full sentence, I'm against prisoners having no incentives to behave, this is, imho, a danger to prison officers and staff in general.

I wonder if prisoners read these threads in prison and discuss them?
