Talking of the weather.
Yesterday the Sydney desalination plant was turned on for the first time since 2012 - it will be six months before it is producing drinkable water and will be on for 2 years (minimum - private venture)
Sydney's dams are below 60% full, some as low as 27% but some towns in NSW have already run out of water and are drinking bore water (eg Walgett) other towns are near the end of their supply.

In Manindee there have been massive fish kills because the water level is so low there is not enough oxygen in the water. A lot of this can be put down to squabbling between the state and federal governments and resultant poor water management along the Murray Darling river system
