Same with me sometimes, people think I am my sons' sister.
You must be a good-looking man Spitty.

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

My oh my, you all have been very good, I’m sorry but I forgot to bring you all back a stick of Kerry rock, maybe next time.
We had a terrific weeks break, great craic and you just can’t beat the local talent for music, singing, and tall tales, sure it does your old heart a treat. I’m slightly annoyed because I left a bottle of the finest potion money can buy on the train coming home, strictly for medicinal purposes you understand, fat chance of getting it back though.

I witnessed a robbery on a Ladies dressmaking shop while in Tralee, two men were carrying out rolls of cloth and putting them into a white van, they were caught red handed.
The case comes up next month, I may be called as a material witness.

What the hell is a material witness anyway? any answers there Pug me lad?

Ah yes Kerry rock, rural rock took over from the traditional Irish dancing. I remember this rural rock song by that very heavy Spanish rocker, El Ton Jon.

The Crocky Stile Rock

I remember when rock was young
Me and Molly stepped in some cow dung
Holding hands and skinning carrots
On an old tractor I borrowed from the Barrets
But the biggest kick I ever got
Was doing a thing called the cocky stile rock
While other nasty kids were in the dock
We were hopping and bopping to the crocky stile rock.

I have to nip out now with a present for my favourite girl in the bookies, she’s the cause of all me trebles .
God love her she’ll be working until 10 tonight.

See you later.

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

Thank you Sweetie.
I'm not going to push to get me poteen back, the stuff is illegal, nuff said.

Which brings me along nicely to a singing teacher we had at school, well she was just an ordinary teacher who sang and fancied herself as professional operatic material. I was thinking about her on the long train journey home.
She was a heavy woman and when she filled her lungs with air her huge bust would raise up like a pair of party balloons within her dark green twinset, us boys thought she would burst.
She stressed the importance of pronouncing every word of a song properly and would wet her fat right index finger and wipe the corners of her lips “To remove the cobwebs before we start” we were supposed to do likewise. Next she straightened out her hand, held it out in front of her face and stuffed four fingers into her mouth to “Expand the outlet” a scary vision of a python trying to swallow a whole pig springs to mind whilst witnessing this manoeuvre.
Then she’d start off with that woeful late 18th century piece only fit for funerals and Lord Edgeware’s drawing room on a wet Sunday afternoon, “The Harp that once through Tara’s Halls” She used to say that she had a trained voice but it must have been trained by Vincent O’Brien because she sounded like one of his thoroughbreds neighing for attention with a wasp trapped under it’s tail.
Is it any wonder my generation warmly embraced Rock n Roll in the late 50’s?
