Re: Why Did You Choose Your Moniker?

Some maintain that "Pumicestone" suggests I have an 'abrasive' personality.
Which could be true.
But it was chosen because I live in the world-heritage-listed Pumicestone Passage Marine Park in sunny Queensland, Australia.
Google if interested.

Re: Why Did You Choose Your Moniker?

All sitting comfortably ? OK ... I shall endeavour to explain

In 2006/7 I was at last allowed to use the new computer (iMac).

My late OH had worked for himself, at home, for a number of years and the computer room/office was something sacred. I was not allowed to go near the equipment for fear of ? dunno what !

When the new iMac arrived, he'd more or less given up self-employment and decided that I could be let loose on it so I could get on with my family tree and messing around with photographs.

By that time I was suitably terrified of touching anything 'computery' and especially frightened of going near the internet. Identity theft was in the news so much.
He would have made a rotten teacher and got pretty impatient with me dithering around and asking daft questions.

I couldn't even type and he'd been using computers since the 1980s.

My surname came from part of our joint email address ~ his initials and mine and the Rachel from his first initial 'R'

I never intended to stick with this name ~ it was the result of panic ~ but here I am, still using it ...

I often wonder how things will be when we (people who use pseudonyms) become ancient and confused. I foresee problems galore !!!

I agree - having one name is enough
At least Rachel suits you, some names just don't .....

Re: Why Did You Choose Your Moniker?

Mine is from way back when I was in school, it started as a taunt and ended as a nickname, as soon as we left school the name sort of dropped as we grew older, and my school friends then are still my friends now, and address me either by my first name or by my second (which some people are christened).

As for my Avater....that was a sign outside a restaurant on Beale Street Memphis who specialised in spare ribs and pulled pork.

The caption made me chuckle, ( `PIG` Pork with an Attitude )

Funny how Brits say Toy boy, we say Boy Toy.
Just thought you'd enjoy that little pearl of wisdom.

Re: Why Did You Choose Your Moniker?

Theres quite a few different words we say for the same thing.

You say Hood...we say bonnet

Pants......trousers

The list is endless, but I agree it is quirkey as we were both are taught the Queens English.
