Re: Boris Johnson resigns.

Hi

Before we all get carried away

There are not, as yet, enough votes for a Tory Leadership Contest.

If there is to be one, they take months, time we do not have as the Brexit clock ticks down.

A General Election cannot just be called, it takes a House of Commons vote and that would mean the Tories voting to give Corbyn a chance of getting in.

Farage cannot influence the outcome of Brexit, he is not even an MP.

Meanwhile, the World looks on with disbelief at the mess our own Politicians have got us into and shakes it's head.

There was no party concensus on Brexit at all. They all thought we'd be staying in the Empire.

All politicians, Cameron, May and even Compo, should be accountable for what has happened since.

The people voted to leave.

I assume, of course, that this is unimportant to you and you believe that we should have continued to have referenda indefinitely until you got your own way.

Why doesn't the odious rabble rouser Farage jump off the pier then?

That never happens. You cannot please everyone, that's why politicians are so unpopular.

On the contrary I don't think we should ever have had a referendum.

The people voted for a santa list.

And, of course, had the remainiacs won you would have been of a different opinion, wouldn't you?

We would not be in the horrendous situation that all you clever people have put us in now.

How others see you? You can hear today's report on the ABC AM program here:

http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/radio/lo...k-politics.mp3

It ends with the comment "Whilst Boris Johnson's ambition has never been questioned his abilities certainly are. The Conservative Party's capacity for self destruction over Europe has prompted yet another crisis"
Current British politics has the air of a drawing room farce which probably wouldn't matter were it not such a serious issue affecting the nation for decades to come.

Personally I think such an important issue should have had a higher threshold for success. The result was far too close guaranteeing that the country is absolutely divided and will be for a long time.

Such an important issue should need a threshold, say, 70% vote in favour to succeed. It would make both arguments far more likely to finely hone their case rather than the now obviously transparent lies that both sides promulgated

I give as an example the Australian constitution can only be changed in a referendum if it is approved by a majority of voters in a majority of states, and by a majority of voters across the nation. This is known as a double majority. This threshold means that only about eight attempts to change the constitution have succeeded out of over 40 referendums. BUT it shows that good arguments will succeed.

For something as important as this to just scrape though is asking for the division and bitterness you are experiencing no matter who won.
