The awareness course is all about the money. We can choose the points or the course but the fine remains whatever we choose.

Vans of a certain weight and size are restricted to 50mph.

Way way back many years ago 1960's I got stopped for doing 45 MPH I think it was on an unrestrictred road. The charge was driving a goods van with excess speed which was limited to 40mph according to the cops. This was my own private mini van with private road fund licence and fully insured.

That touch wood, is the only speeding fine I have ever got or will get.

I am seriously considering getting a dashcam, my thoughts are being aware that your driving is monitored for speed you will intend to keep speed down, let alone recording roads and accidents

Re: I am a criminal

Both my wife and I have been on speed awareness courses and, yes, they were interesting.

Of course, you have to pay for them, and you end up paying pretty much as you would for a fine.

The advantages are two-fold: you don't get points on your licence; you make the buggers do something for their money.

One disadvantage, of course, is that you have to put aside a day of your time. That didn't bother me too much, though, as I'm retired.

Oh, I get it.

BTW I have never been booked for anything in 54 years driving, though these days I rarely find speed limits a challenge and cruise control saves me where it is (like 40kph school zones).

I think the speed restrictions on Vans and the like, is a voluntary thing, to promote environmental responsibility, nowt to do with speed legislation.

So, a van is the same as a car, if it ain't towing a Caravan?
